Week 2

HelloPurr

We had a lab to complete with MIT App Inventor for week 2. This involved creating the demo HelloPurr app. I downloaded the instructions from Blackboard and the associated audio file and cat image. The app involved a simple button, and the interface of the app inventor was relatively easy to navigate from the Blackboard instructions.

I uploaded the file photo of the cat to the Screen and also the audio file, and labelled the button "Pet the Kitty". This meant that the picture of the cat would "meow" when this button was pressed.

This involved the technical aspects of incorporating the Button and Sound together in the Blocks section of the App development. Each block had a different feature and joining different blocks together achieve different results.
It was possible to add more features in the bloc section, for example in this instance. Upon pressing this button, it would result in the meow sound AND a phone vibration. You can adjust the time of the vibration also; it is set to vibrate for 500 milliseconds in this screen-grab.
I really enjoyed the experience of using MIT App inventor, and found it surprisingly easy to use. I had a fully functional HelloPurr App after the experience and really look forward to using the software again.
