For week 3 we had to create a Magic 8 Ball App, again using MIT App inventor. I decided to use a standard Magic 8 Ball image paired with a "Cha-Ching" sound. This App was slightly more complicated than the HelloPurr one as it involved more components and features. The main principle of this App was to ask the Magic 8 Ball a question, and then either touch or shake the phone/Magic 8 Ball, to receive an answer.
The blocks for this App were more complicated as shown in this screenshot. When the button is clicked, it will play a sound and also generate a label, in this case a list of possible answers. Extra items were added to the list in order to add more answers, as shown in progress.
This larger screenshot shows the completed list of answers and all the different block components of the App. At this stage it should be functional.
We also experimented with changing some features of the app. In this image, I switched the button block with an Accelerometer Sensor block. In this instance, shaking the phone will result in the same series of actions as pressing the button would have.
As a result I completed and made a fully functional Magic 8 Ball App. I later adjusted the answers to be more humorous and specific for use on my friends and family. I liked experimenting with the different features and adjusting them, and was very happy with the experience.
